Career Coaching in Westchester
One-to-one campaign strategy for senior leaders: positioning, a named target market, outreach, interviews and negotiation, run on a weekly rhythm.
What executive career coaching actually is
It is running a structured campaign toward the next role rather than reacting to whatever appears on a job board. The work moves in a fixed order because each stage depends on the one before it: clarify the value proposition, build the documents around it, define a named target market, activate the network and recruiter channel, prepare for interviews, then negotiate.
The order matters more than people expect. Most stalled executive searches are stalled because the documents were written before anyone decided what they were arguing for, so every application is a slightly different guess.
Why senior searches drag
Because senior roles are rarely filled through applications. They are filled through people, and reaching those people takes a clear proposition and a deliberate sequence. Time disappears into portals, which feels like progress and produces very little.
Most executives have never had to build either, because for twenty years inside one company the work spoke for itself. Outside it, nobody has that context and it has to be constructed.
What is included
- Value proposition and positioning, settled before anything is written
- A named target company list rather than a job-title search
- Network activation and a recruiter strategy
- Interview preparation, including panel and board level
- Offer evaluation and negotiation coaching
- A weekly operating rhythm, which is what actually moves a campaign
The Westchester market
Westchester runs on a corporate spine through White Plains, Armonk, Purchase and Harrison, with healthcare systems, consumer products and financial services holding the largest senior headcounts. It is close enough to Manhattan that most searches here end up spanning both, and far enough that the local network behaves like its own market.
The practical consequence is that a Westchester target list is almost never only Westchester. It usually reaches across the border into Fairfield County and down into the city, because the executive talent pool moves freely across all three and the same recruiters cover them.
Clients come from Scarsdale, Rye, Bronxville, Chappaqua, Larchmont and White Plains, and the target lists usually reach wider than the county line.
Meeting in person, or not
Most Westchester engagements run on video, which is what senior clients prefer for scheduling. When meeting in person is worth it, Linda is a short drive or a Metro-North connection away in Connecticut, on the same rail corridor that serves the Harlem and Hudson lines.
Linda Van Valkenburgh holds five career-coaching certifications (MS, CCMC, CJSS, CSMCS, CELDC) and is an invited Executive Career Coach Expert for the CEO Trust community of chief executives. Every engagement starts the same way: a free assessment, then a complimentary thirty-minute consultation. Most clients are employed and running a confidential search, so discretion is built into how the work runs.

Questions Westchester executives ask
How long does an executive search take?
At senior level, commonly four to nine months, and longer when you are deliberately changing industry or function. A structured campaign shortens it mainly by replacing months of portal applications with targeted outreach.
Can I do this while I am still employed?
Yes, and most clients do. There is a documented confidential search method covering LinkedIn broadcast settings, briefing recruiters in writing, interview scheduling that leaves no pattern, and reference control.
Is this coaching or is it done for me?
Coaching, with the documents written for you. Linda builds the strategy and the materials with you, and you run the outreach, because the relationships have to be yours.
Do you work with executives across the New York metro?
Yes. Most Westchester engagements run on video, which is what senior clients prefer for scheduling. When meeting in person is worth it, Linda is a short drive or a Metro-North connection away in Connecticut, on the same rail corridor that serves the Harlem and Hudson lines.
